About Peter Cebon

With nearly three decades of experience as an educator, researcher, and consultant, I specialize in innovation management, strategic implementation, and organizational design and behaviour that drives meaningful change. For the past eight years, I've led the award-winning Innovation Practice Program in the Faculty of Engineering and IT at the University of Melbourne. This program creates mutual value by developing both graduate students and industry professionals while enhancing organizational innovation capabilities. My consulting work focuses on helping large organizations implement and optimize management systems that effectively deliver high-risk, innovation-driven strategies. Recent clients include utilities and Australian federal science agencies, building on my extensive experience at the intersection of innovation, management, and organizational design. My current research explores culture change by examining how people adopt valuable mindsets and skills that may not be their primary focus—such as teaching professional skills to technically-oriented students or embedding ethical considerations in scientific endeavors. I'm also deeply invested in understanding and improving student experiences. Prior to joining FEIT, my research investigated how large organizations develop and execute high-risk strategic initiatives, examining both management practices and corporate governance frameworks that support innovation. Throughout my career, I've developed extensive experience as a leader, educator, facilitator, and workshop leader, helping organizations and individuals navigate complex innovation challenges.
