I am interested in researching the role of silence, particularly in relation to trauma in the lived experience of suicide. Silence possesses unique qualities that can convey aspects of experience beyond verbal expression. I am passionate about giving voice to people and experiences that may remain unseen by combining ethnographic approaches with the purposeful use of silence as method. Using silence focuses on emotional expression in policy implementation particularly within highly structured social and organisational contexts. Silence plays an important role for researchers conducting ethnographic fieldwork and mental health professionals in their practice, especially when responding to trauma, emotional transference, and the lived experience of suicide.
