Background
About Peter Fox
Where I'm at. freelance data scientist who is looking to find the industry to build his career in. Wanting to focus on predictive modelling techniques, data analytics, data visualisation and decision making powered by numbers. Industry preference is finance, specifically sustainable investment but very much open minded at this point in time. Experience. my first introduction to the power of applied statistics was in my final year of university. Here I delved into Artificial Neural Networks and their use to help predict sports, specifically rugby. I also enjoyed looking at how different statistical techniques could be used to assess current market time-series data. My last two years saw me working for a innovative sports betting company, as one of the few Quantitative and Modelling Analysts in the Data Science team. This was a dynamic role that helped me solidify my coding foundations in R and excel VBA as well as expanding my skills to use C#, python and SQL on a daily basis. The main role saw me creating predictive models to help power the pricing of the product using a Monte-Carlo type simulation occasionally reinforced by an algorithm where possible. Also, maintenance and updates were needed to the vast pre-existing Git repository to ensure the product remained bug free, fresh and market-leading. Other tasks involved data scraping, report tool creation, stakeholder communication and market research. I was keen to take responsibility, build team relations (including having a seat in the culture committee and junior business development team) and always looked for new solutions to a problem. While this job taught me a lot, I couldn't see myself working in the industry forever. I knew that my skills could be put to more important use. I guess you could say I saw the "bigger picture". Furthermore, I am also keen to expand my skill base away from pure coding and analytics. I'm a people person and enjoy building relationships as much as building models. Favourite hobbies - rugby, windsurfing, surfing, guitar, reading, chess Favourite holiday destination - anywhere with a beach Dream superpower - predict the future Book recommendation - Die With Zero by Bill Perkins Link to portfolio - coming soon.
