About Peter Irwin

I am the Associate Director for Research and Advocacy at the Uyghur Human Rights Project, working on internationally recognized and cited research projects for the organization, leading multilateral advocacy at the United Nations and elsewhere, and directing the organization's communications strategy. I am frequently quoted by major news outlets, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and the Guardian, and has appeared on TV and radio programs on such as BBC, NPR, and Al Jazeera. I have published op-eds in Foreign Policy, The Guardian, The Independent, Hong Kong Free Press, and elsewhere. I have testified before the U.K. Parliament and the Uyghur Tribunal, and has served as a speaker on numerous panels and at international conferences. Prior to joining the Uyghur Human Rights Project, I was the Program Manager and Spokesperson for the World Uyghur Congress, working on multilateral advocacy at the United Nations and European Union, as well as organizational development. I grew up in Canada and is an MSc graduate of Human Rights from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
