About Peter Masterson

My role as a leader is simply about creating an environment that allows my team to succeed. I look to understand what is required by the team around me to perform to their best ability and then try to put this in place so that we can succeed as a team and a business. I truly believe that people, relationships, compassion, and trust are the most important part of leadership. If we can build a team full of these attributes, we will be set up for success in whatever we put our minds to. Once we create this culture, we need to communicate the common vision/goals and success will follow. Career summary: As the Head of Service at Ergo, I was an integral member of the senior management team and have led a team of over 70 people. I have strategically developed the organisational structure from an in-country delivery model to a full follow the sun 24*7*365 structure. I have also created clear goal driven career paths for all of the roles under my remit to drive employee development. In addition to strategic development of the organisation and its people I have commercial responsibility to agree budgets and report on performance against these budgets. While I began my IT career as a software developer I have worked in all areas of the industry (software development, ITSM management, project management business analysis, infrastructure support etc.), this gives me a unique insight into the challenges facing people in all the different roles that participate in the IT service delivery process. In my current role in the HEA I am utilising the expertise I have gained to try build a great place to work for my team. In addition our goal is to build a sustainable long term IT service delivery model for the organisation. Education: My initial 3rd level education was information’s system in Trinity College Dublin in 1996. I augmented this with an advanced Diploma in Project management from the Dublin Business school in 2005 and then a Master of Business qualification from the IMI in 2012.
