About Peyman Neysari

After diving into different fields in Mechanical Engineering including designing/patenting agricultural machinery systems, sewage separators, digesters/bioreactors, cyclones, viscometers, etc. I stumbled upon gaseous emissions measurement techniques and methods in the agricultural sector. In my Ph.D, I explored the different features of nitrogen emission and nitrogen-based greenhouse gas from poultry barns under the supervision of Prof. dr. Peter Groot Koerkamp, dr. Nico Ogink and dr. Jerke de Vries at Wageninegn University and Research. We designed and developed different set-ups to measure NH3, N2O, and NOx in the lab and further for field studies. I have reviewed and got inspired by different fields of science including terrestrial and aquatic environments in my PhD. The intense review aided me to obtain in-depth knowledge of different compounds' emissions from different sources, their underlying pathways, behaviours, as well as numerous emission measurement techniques and methods. I have carried out multiple fundamental research to compare directly and indirectly measured/ calculated N compounds in the livestock sector, as well as exploring and reliability assessment of the N/P, N/K, and N/ash as alternatives to N mass balance. I have also conducted many edge-of-science measurements with different methods and techniques: Gas washing (impinger or acid scrubber), chemiluminescence and photoacoustic techniques etc. As one of my scientific outreach activities, I established and currently organise a monthly-based discussion group entitled ‘Emissions and Nutrient Management’ together with the PE & RC Graduate School of Wageningen UR, to gather different researchers across the globe and discuss the emissions and the consequences thereof from different sources (link:
