Background
About Philippe Gerber
Philippe Gerber is research fellow as geographer at LISER. He is developing his career mainly on three directions: 1) Advances in Land Use and Transport Interaction (LUTI models) in linking interactions between residential and daily mobility with spatial and econometric analysis in order to better understand how commuting interacts with urban environments and how can spatial planning and urban scenarios promote sustainable mobility (Planning Theory and Practice 2015, Transport Reviews 2018). 2) Survey Design and advanced methodology: with a particular attention to be given to the interactions between the macro and the micro levels, the socio-spatial dimensions of daily and residential mobility need constant geovisualisation and cutting edge quantitative methodologies (SEM, Latent class models.), in order to help decision-makers in their choices (publications in Applied Geography, BMC Geriatrics, Transportmetrica A). 3) Improvement in travel behaviour analysis: The focus is to understand mobility behaviour beyond the traditional prism of “bounded rationality”. Therefore, the ad hoc surveys linked to different research projects include topics dealing with attitudes, perceptions and beliefs, in which the empirical-based research focuses on Luxembourg and its specific cross-border context (Transportation Research Record, J of Transport Geography, J of Borderlands Studies, Transportation Research Part A). The MoBILife project (Mobility Biographies, Identity, towards Life satisfaction), funded by the FNR (Fonds National de la Recherche - Luxembourg), is a scientific leave during one academic year (Sept 2018 - August 2019) as visiting scholar at McGill University (Montréal, Canada) affiliated to the School of urban Planning and the School of Environment. This project intends to disentangling the relationships between mobility biographies, socio-psychological determinants and changes in quality of life, from the understudied, yet central perspective of ‘professional’ mobility.
