Hello! I’m Rachel Crane, and I’ve always been captivated by the ocean's mysteries. As a Science Communicator, Ocean Explorer, and Underwater Videographer, I’m dedicated to inspiring a love for our beautiful blue planet. My mission is to connect people with marine ecosystems through engaging storytelling and immersive experiences. I’m thrilled to explore new opportunities and collaborations that bring us closer to our oceans! As an Independent Contractor, I draw on my background as a Marine Ecologist, PADI Master Scuba Instructor, and licensed USCG 100-ton Captain to share the wonders of the ocean with diverse audiences around the world. Lately, I’m diving deeper into nature and wildlife photography and videography, capturing the magic of marine life to enhance my science communication efforts. When I’m back in Key Largo, Florida, I’m often found captaining vessels for science professionals restoring the Florida Keys Reef Tract or guiding eco-tourism experiences that educate visitors on the importance of our local marine environments. It is amazing to live sandwiched between two National Parks, within a National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, and with the third largest barrier reef in the world as my front yard. I love mentoring young professionals in boating and scuba diving skills, empowering them to navigate their career paths with confidence. Traveling is one of my greatest joys, and while I’m off voyaging, I join the Expedition Field Staff for National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions as part of their Undersea Team. My role is incredibly dynamic and exciting! I’m leading excursions in temperate, tropical, and polar regions as a naturalist, captaining expedition craft as I lead tours, and scuba diving capturing breathtaking underwater footage of the stunning and remote locations we explore around the world. All to share it with others aboard to inspire them to build a personal connection with the nature around them. My passion lies in helping others connect with wild places. I focus on the interconnections of our ecosystems through ocean and climate ecology stories, fostering meaningful conversations that promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of our blue planet.
