Background

About Rebekah Thrush

During my studies, I delved into modules such as Contemporary Conservation Science, Primate Ecology and Conservation, Marine Ecosystems, Wildlife Film & Media, and had the incredible opportunity to embark on a Tropical Expedition to the Madagascan Rainforests. This immersive field trip enabled me to collect ecological wildlife data and further develop my understanding of conservation practices in real-world contexts. Some of my notable skills and achievements include: Final year research project and dissertation focusing on the effects of forestry management techniques on terrestrial mollusc species diversity. Through this project, I honed my skills in report writing, practical autonomous data collection, and data analysis using R software, resulting in a 2:1 grade. Engaging in a three-week residential field trip to the Madagascan rainforest, where I not only gained project-leading skills but also fostered valuable partnerships with local stakeholders. I actively participated in practical wildlife-related data collection, further solidifying my understanding of field research methodologies. Undertaking a residential field trip to North Cyprus, where I enhanced my species identification abilities, liaised with key stakeholders in fisheries management, and maintained a comprehensive field logbook. Showcasing my research abilities by designing and presenting scientific projects in both poster and PowerPoint formats, including a campaign focused on conserving UK bee species and a fisheries management plan in the Philippines. Leveraging my research and communication skills to collate wildlife and habitat information, which contributed to the creation of wildlife audit and greenspace reports for two postcode areas in Bristol. Demonstrating my passion for community engagement by organizing and running a public day event called Dairy Garden Day at Blaise Castle Estate in 2021. This event aimed to foster a deeper connection between the local community and their natural surroundings. Hosting nature-based workshops for children at Blaise Castle Estate, providing them with hands-on experiences and nurturing their curiosity about the natural world. I am currently seeking opportunities in community engagement, ecological positions, data entry, fundraising, and other related roles within the conservation sector. With a strong foundation in academic knowledge and practical experiences, coupled with my unwavering passion for community-led conservation, I am eager to contribute to impactful conservation initiatives that create positive change.
