About Richard Harte

I am a Usability/Human Factors/UX researcher interested in all things to do with improving user interaction with technology and environments. I currently work for Learnovate as a UX/UI Specialist. I previously worked on the Horizon 20/20 funded Digi-NewB project. This project sought to develop a smart system to detect the onset of sepsis and track the maturation of preterm neonatals. Our role at University of Galway was to design and test the user interface(s) through an iterative human centered design approach, ensuring that the interface(s) adhere to high standards of usability, human factors and user experience. I also formerly worked on the FP7 funded WIISEL project which sought to develop an autonomous, ambient system for detecting falls and continuously measuring fall risk in older adults, and completed my PhD while working on this project. The main focus of my PhD work was the usability and human factors considerations of such a system, which is designed to be used in an unsupervised environment by older adults. A catalogue of my PhD publications can be found on Google scholar and on ResearchGate. I have expert knowledge of Matlab and SPSS, improving knowledge of corona and android SDKs and have taught tutorials in circuit design, digital signal processing and embedded systems. I also have some experience using SAP and AMOS (aircraft logistics and maintenance software).
