About Rick J. Blount

I connect people with meaningful ideas, organizations, and actions. The connection may come through the power of philanthropy. It may be sparked by the written word—on paper, on a website, or on social media. It may come through participation in an event. I am drawn to challenges requiring the full set of skills that build relationships and move people to action. I work to build meaningful relationships by cultivating these qualities in myself and the teams I serve- Listening - Knowing your audience before you speak - Exploring hopes and capacities—your own, your organization’s, your stakeholders’ - Agreeing on what's important and trying not to trip over the rest - Distilling a mountain of information into a few hefty stones of message - Planning well-and knowing that all plans are imperfect - Practicing compassion and vulnerability, 360 degrees - Laughing Specialties: fundraising (major gifts; gift administration; development leadership); mindful philanthropic giving; alumni relations; public engagement; strategic communications; writing; communicating about science; health care; health education; non-profit organizations.
