About Rick Royd Aban

Over the past 13 years of native Android development, I’ve had the opportunity to navigate the platform's evolution from the early days of Eclipse and Java to the modern precision of Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. I specialize in partnering with companies to solve two primary challenges: 1. Modernizing Complex Codebases: When legacy applications become difficult to scale or maintain, I help teams strategically refactor and migrate architecture (like transitioning to Kotlin 2.x) while ensuring uninterrupted business operations. Optimizing Developer Velocity: When slow builds or manual deployments hinder a team's progress, I build automated CI/CD pipelines using Bitrise and Fastlane. By reducing build times by up to 40%, I help teams focus on shipping features rather than fighting their tools. My approach relies on building sustainable, scalable systems: • Architecture: MVI for predictable, clean state management. • UI & Components: Jetpack Compose for rapid, reactive UI development, alongside deep experience with complex custom views and media integrations like ExoPlayer. • Scale: Architecting solutions proven to support apps with millions of active downloads. • Strategy: Combining deep technical execution with broader IT project management principles to ensure engineering efforts align seamlessly with business goals.
