About Rick Woten

I am a professor of history - sport, agricultural, environmental, and public history - former museum director, and retired forester. Gilder-Lehrman Institute of American History and Filson Historical Society research fellow. I research and write about cycling and agricultural history, and I am passionate about cultural resources, visitor experiences, and the Silos and Smokestacks National Heritage Area. In addition, I am an avid researcher, scholar, lecturer, and public speaker on sport, Midwestern, environmental, agricultural, and rural histories. I regularly serve as a public history and museum consultant, non-profit and governmental grant reviewer. I am a former forester and bicycle racer and still enjoy a great day on a bike be it road, mt. bike, fat bike, cross, or other. In the winter, I love to classic and skate x-country ski. In the spring, summer, and fall, from the Rockies to Driftless, to the Blue Ridge. put me on a trout stream.
