My group studies the interactions of charged species at solid-liquid and liquid -liquid interphases. Our multidisciplinary area of research encompasses various aspects of development and applications of materials sensors for detecting ions/molecules of importance in physiological, environmental and process monitoring. This entails coupling molecular or biomolecular recognition involving host-guest type interactions to signal transducers (electrical or optical) to generate an electrical signal proportional to the target analyte concentration. The practical issues and understanding of the mechanisms associated with the development and applications of these sensors form an integral part of this field of interdisciplinary research. Colloboration with organic and polymer chemists, biologists, industrialists and engineers is essential to address the diverse requirements of sensors development.
