Background
About Roberto Gautier
Received Citizen Tree Pruner Certificate in June 2014. In addition to tutoring basic Spanish, Italian, French and ESL, I work to improve the food system. We enjoy managing a Vermont getaway for city dwellers interested in agritourism with a focus on organic farms & small-batch cheesemakers. A founder of Cadman Plaza West Peace & Quiet Committee prompted by the waiver of the NYC Noise Code. This exemption permits after-hours construction activity on the Brooklyn Bridge that has caused serious sleep disturbances, health and environmental problems for thousands of city residents. On July 12, 2013, the New York Times published an article by Cara Buckley on the impact of construction noise in NYC. The article was based partly on interviews with Roberto Gautier and a photo of Roberto by Pulitzer Prize winner, Damon Winter. In the summer of 2012, Roberto spoke at Internoise, an international conference on noise, at the Marriott Marquis, NYC. Dr. Arline Bronzaft began advising him in 2012. An active member of Slow Food NYC's board of directors: involved with the Slow Food NYC Book/Film Committee, its Speakers' Bureau and its farm/garden in Brownsville, Brooklyn. I am energized by teaching kindergarteners and others how to melt butter, make crepes, prepare crushed fruit fillings for desserts and, of course, visit chocolatiers and make simple chocolate sauces. During a trip to Italy in May 2013, I refreshed my connection with the Italian language and culture. This recharging of my batteries reaffirms my bond with family and friends who celebrate genuine relationships, political engagement and real food. The trip will also boost my effectiveness as an Italian tutor. In June 2013, I joined the Slow Food NYC Policy Committee prioritizes the chapter's engagement in issues such as, labeling of genetically-modified organisms, proposals to Farm Bill legislation, the impact of municipal government on food policy and sustainability.
