About Robyn Whelan
An RTP IV with the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystem Research and a part-time master’s student for the Applied Ocean Technology program at the Marine Institute. I am a part of the Marine Conservation Area (MCA) Project, an MI led, DFO funded project, that conducts non-invasive research in MCAs offshore of NL. Through this work I have gained offshore experience working on numerous vessels conducting research activities such as eDNA and zooplankton sampling, video data, CTD data, and acoustic data collection. While on land my time is split between preparing for our next at sea mission and zooplankton analysis this includes tasks such as ensuring we have purchased and received necessary equipment, testing equipment, packing, and the identification and data management for zooplankton samples. For the zooplankton analysis I have received training from the University of Laval, the majority of my experience is geared towards the identification of copepods. I feel very passionate about ocean exploration, and I am so grateful that I get to play a small role in exploring and learning more about our oceans!
