Roger Nyhus is the founder and former CEO of Nyhus Communications, a nearly 30-year-old, Seattle-based strategic communications, advocacy and marketing consultancy serving innovative organizations and visionary leaders. Roger has built his career promoting American companies, innovations and breakthrough technologies in sectors that include global health and health care, travel and tourism, aviation, global philanthropy, telecommunications, sustainability and energy, financial services, seafood and the arts. Based in the most trade-driven state in the country, Roger is a strong and effective advocate for international trade and economic development in rural, urban and diverse communities. Roger, who sold his company in June 2022, has represented numerous clients in advancing global commercial engagements and people-to-people exchanges. He has participated in numerous international trade missions. Roger specializes in navigating complex issues and solving problems at the intersection of business, government, media and the public. Roger is known for bringing diverse audiences together, and he effortlessly develops deep and candid working relationships with his clients, partners and key stakeholders. Roger has served as a trusted adviser to business and government leaders around the world, including CEOs of Fortune 500 companies as well as former Washington Gov. Gary Locke. Under Roger's leadership, Nyhus became one of Seattle's leading communications and advocacy firms and the eighth largest Native American-owned company in Washington state, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal. Roger is an enrolled member of the Chinook Indian Nation. Roger's business, civic and philanthropic engagement has been recognized by multiple business groups and the media. In 2010, Roger was named Business Leader of the Year by the Greater Seattle Business Association, North America’s largest LGBTQ+ chamber of commerce. Nyhus earned the Seattle Mayor’s Small Business Award in 2009. In 2006, the Puget Sound Business Journal recognized Roger as one of 40 outstanding members of the business community under the age of 40. Roger grew up in Westport, Washington, a small fishing village on the Pacific Ocean. The son of a commercial fisherman and municipal court clerk, Roger ran the town’s summer fishing derby to help pay for college. He understands life on the ocean and economies that rely on natural resources and tourism.
