Work Placement Manager in the College of Business and Law in University College Cork, helping Students in UCC connect with work placement employers. I work with students in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Marketing, Business, Food Marketing & Entrepreneurship in undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes. In my previous role as Career Consultant and Coach, in University College Cork I worked with undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing career coaching, support and information on all aspects of their career development. I supported students through one-to-one consultations and through the design and delivery of group lectures and workshops. My work with people typically focuses on optimising your CV, cover letters and LinkedIn profile, practising and honing your interview skills, involving background work on identifying your skills and strengths and unique selling points and promoting them to potential employers. I also help people to identify opportunities, not just focusing on advertised roles but creating their own opportunities through networking and career research. People often come to me to figure out their career next steps, whether that is a new role in the current organisation or a bigger shift to a whole new career. I have a special interest in career change and recently completed a thesis researching career change at midlife and gaining a deeper understanding of how to work with people to navigate common barriers to change that may be blocking their desire to make a career move. I also have a lot of experience supporting job seekers to upskill though training programmes and begin their career in the tech industry, by delivering workshops and providing one to one coaching and guidance.
