About Ryan Parrish

I'm a former elementary educator turned software engineer, transitioning from understanding young minds to understanding computers. Both present challenges, but unlike students, computers do exactly what you tell them—for better or worse. That’s a different kind of behavior management! As a full-stack developer, I’ve worked on projects independently and collaboratively, focusing on object-oriented programming, MVC architecture, responsive SPAs, and minimalist designs. I’m proficient in React, JavaScript, Python, Ruby on Rails, SQL, CSS, CRUD, RESTful architecture, APIs, and third-party authentication. Continuous learning is key to my approach. I regularly upskill through platforms like Udemy and hands-on experimentation. Supporting students in project builds has exposed me to a wide range of web app development challenges, and I enjoy all the debugging practice that comes with it. I've developed a keen eye for catching errors. I thrive in environments that value clear communication and accountability. With a strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills, I find deep satisfaction in solving complex problems, especially when collaborating with others. I'm drawn to optimistic, solution-focused individuals. Before teaching, I was a stay-at-home father, balancing family life with home projects. Outside of coding, I enjoy skiing, camping, weightlifting, meditation, board games, cooking, and hockey—keeping life balanced and rewarding on all levels.
