An Eagle Scout and former world-class swimmer, I have decades of experience - successes and challenges - in military, business, government and non-profit leadership. I joined the Army in 1983 as a Cavalry Officer and served on four continents in more than 30 countries after completing a history major from the University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou). In nearly 23 years of military service, I worked for and with great people, to high standards. I was on duty in the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001 and was decorated for valor and service to others that day, and for my efforts in helping others in the weeks, months and years to follow. Throughout my career I was cited as a strong leader, team builder, and player-coach; developing award-winning and high performing teams with very diverse members. I am sought-after as a inspirational speaker about leadership, service, and my 9/11 Pentagon experiences. I am married to my awesome wife Sharon, and in addition to three great daughters, we have two bully-breed rescue doggies and very full lives. We live in Crystal Lake, and I am a very proud member of the Rotary Club of Crystal Lake – the Dawnbreakers, where we practice Service Above Self, and giving back – in addition to my activities in the veteran community.
