Background
About Sam Flores
Rev. Sam Flores, a native Texan, holds a Bachelor's in Government/pre-law from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master's in Organizational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University, with additional theological training from Emory University. He began his ministry as a youth minister in Austin before serving as Lead Pastor in San Antonio Central, where he oversaw significant growth and helped transition the congregation to a bilingual, multicultural community. The church planted a new congregation in northwest San Antonio, and Sam was ordained as an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene. He later led New Vision Community Church of the Nazarene and previously served as Lead Pastor at Houston Southwest Church of the Nazarene for about eight years. Concurrently, for eleven years, Sam served as an assistant to the district superintendent as the South Texas District Missionary, overseeing New Church Development and Multicultural Ministries. In 2013, he became Assistant District Superintendent for the South Texas District. Sam has ministered internationally in Central and South America and Portugal and has served on various boards and committees at the Regional and General levels. He was also District NYI President for the Texas-Oklahoma Latin District for five years. Currently, Sam serves as District Superintendent of the South Carolina District, is a Board of Trustees member at Trevecca Nazarene University, and holds several roles with the denominational church, including as a member of the New Church Task Force in the USA/Canada region. Sam is married to Candy, and they have four daughters. Together, they enjoy traveling and meeting new people. Sam has consistently drawn upon his diverse experiences, extensive education, and unique personal strengths to shape his journey as a denominational leader. Sam’s strategic mindset has enabled him to guide congregations and districts through significant transitions, while his achiever drive has fueled his commitment to church growth and development. His natural ability to connect with others and generate innovative ideas has fostered collaboration and inspired new initiatives within a wide range of church communities. Moreover, Sam’s desire to make a meaningful impact is reflected in his dedication to mentoring leaders, planting new churches, and serving on regional and national denominational boards. These strengths, combined with his passion for ministry and cross-cultural engagement, have equipped Sam to serve effectively as a denominational leader and visionary within the Church of the Nazarene.
