About Sam Hogg

My name is Sam Hogg and I am an audio engineer based between Sydney and Brisbane, Australia. I graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium with a Distinction from the Bachelor of Music Technology Program. This degree prepared me for a career in a number of music technology-based areas, ranging from classical recording, to game sound design, to pop production, to sonic art performance and composition. My focus throughout the degree and since has been on music production and specifically live and studio recording of jazz, classical and pop music. I have worked as a theatre technician at the Queensland Conservatorium Theatre since 2017. I work in a small team to ensure the smooth running of a large array of concerts ranging from classical piano recitals and orchestral concerts, all the way through to operas, ballets and musicals. In this job I have familiarised myself with theatre specific technologies and practices, such as basic set hangs, flying, rigging under supervision, AV system setup and operation, LX rigging and plotting, staging assistance and general mechanist tasks. I am a drummer playing in a number of different local bands. I like playing a large variety of musical genres and interacting musically with a diverse range of people as I’ve found it helps see and hear things from another’s perspective. Performing has also given me invaluable insight into what makes a rewarding performer experience, which has informed my practice as a live sound engineer. I am energetic, enthusiastic and highly self-motivated. I am extremely passionate about music and entertainment events, and the role it plays in enhancing people’s lives and social integration.
