About Samuel Marcus

I'm passionate about spending my time helping others and developing my own skills and abilities. My studies of the Monash University science global challenges course equips me with knowledge in leadership, persuasive communication, and hands-on practice in transforming an idea into a business or social enterprise exploring the big issues of our time. I'm enjoy using my knowledge in emergency management, and scientific understanding of climate change and geography to delve into the international preparedness space against the natural hazards worsened by anthropogenic climate change. Currently I work with Life Saving Victoria in a handful of operations positions, as well as education positions. This gives me a multi-faceted view of aquatic safety and well-being, providing proactivity through education and reactivity through aquatic rescue. Moreover, in the volunteer space I am a regional officer with St John Ambulance for deployment and readiness, ensuring the preparedness of the greater Melbourne area St John divisions for emergency deployments. This complements my volunteering as a first responder at major events, providing meical services to hundreds of thousands of event patrons. With surf lifesaving, I'm a long standing member of a lifesaving club, patrolling our beaches every summer and managing a patrol team. I also hold a state role as the council representative of the membership and leadership development council executive, being involved with governance of member development for our lifesavers across Victoria. In my spare time I enjoy running, swimming, cycling and weightlifting and any time I get to be outdoors in nature.
