About Samuel Newkirk

I have specialized in environmental fieldwork and outdoor education for the past seven years. Initially, I worked jobs that involved outdoor recreation and instruction. I am passionate about environmental education and the opportunity to share my knowledge of forestry and ecosystem ecology. After graduating from the Univesity of Dayton in 2019, I focused on ecological fieldwork and learned a multitude of research techniques while interning at two separate Smithsonian research facilities. I have experience teaching the identification of birds, mammals, plants, and trees. Experience spans the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Chesapeake, and East Africa. I began work at Indy Parks as a part-time Naturalist with the Ornithology Center in the summer of 2021 at Eagle Creek Park. Since then, I have worked at Eagle Creek full-time as the Trail Steward and am now the Manager of our rental facilities on the west side of the reservoir, as well as Northwestway Park at 5253 W 62nd St. Indianapolis, IN 46268. I am passionate about the future of accessibility at our parks, as well as creating interpretative nature programs that are inclusive of all park users.
