My past key achievements are; County Councillor for Rushmere, Ipswich 2013-2021 Opposition Spokesperson for Transport 2013-2017 At Suffolk County Council 1984-2012; Joint working with a spectrum of local county, district, town & parish councils, private organisations and the public to devise and implement a range of solutions. Developed new transport policy to manage Suffolk lorry traffic, establishing the first operational lorry route network in the Eastern Region. Set up the Eastern Region Freight Quality Partnership in 2006. Successfully managed part of the Suffolk Local Transport Plan from to 2007. Led Scrutiny Committees, both for Suffolk County and Waveney District Councils and joint Suffolk councils to deliver challenging and proactive scrutiny of public services in Suffolk. Organised scrutiny workshops, committee visits to various organisations, so that the committees engaged with the public. Delivered a change in UK policy at Highways Agency to take account of local council scrutiny and public challenge to level of services provided. Application of highway traffic law, implementation of in excess of 20 environmental weight restrictions, over 15 town centre parking restrictions, zebra crossings, speed limits, ‘safe routes to schools’ schemes, designated cycle routes and other innumerable traffic management schemes. Developed and project managed partnership schemes to enhance the town centre space for three market towns in Suffolk, securing partnership and European funding. This included traffic management solutions as well as enhancing town environment. Improved business efficiency by developing and implementing a co-ordinated electronic capital works programme and liaison process across the Council’s engineering offices, using MS Excel.
