About Sandra Tkacz

Sandy is the first to serve as HDR’s Regional Health Director for both the West and East Regions and started the Richmond architecture office. She leads the east region, 21 states with 10 healthcare design offices in Boston, New York, Princeton, Philadelphia, Arlington, Richmond, Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, and Tampa. Known for her transparent and collaborative leadership style Sandy is an expert in the planning and design of innovative health environments with a passion for innovation strategies and collaborative solutions. She is an advocate and sponsor for emerging talent by engaging and inspiring excellence among future change-makers. With nearly 30 years of experience working with academic medical centers, community and regional hospitals, ambulatory facilities, and women and children’s hospitals, Sandy brings a broad national healthcare perspective to her leadership role and deep understanding of how to collaborate across expertise to deliver the most advanced and innovative healthcare facilities for our east coast clients.She is board certified by the American College of Healthcare Architects in the specialty of healthcare design. Her planning and design experience encompasses millions of SF including 45+ master plans and design work in 20+ states.Sandy is an active member of the American Institute of Architects and the American College of Healthcare Architects. Prior to joining HDR she served in the Midwest as Director, Healthcare for URS and Chief Executive Officer of Karlsberger and, prior to that, Principal and Director of Planning with Odell Associates in Virginia. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design and a Masters of Architecture from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University.
