Background
About Sarah Cauthen
Music has a way of bringing people together — and that’s exactly why I love teaching it. As a music educator, choral director, and lifelong performer, my greatest joy is helping students find their voices — both musically and personally. Whether I’m leading a choir rehearsal, teaching a group of wiggly elementary students, or preparing singers for high-level auditions, my goal is always the same: make music feel joyful, meaningful, and empowering. I’ve spent eighteen years performing professionally and over a decade teaching students of all ages. Along the way, I’ve directed children’s choirs, produced full-stage musicals, taught private voice lessons, and helped countless students successfully audition for All-State and other competitive programs. My time at The Cathedral of St. Philip, home to one of the most respected sacred music programs in the country, also gave me the opportunity to collaborate with some of Atlanta’s most brilliant choral directors — and I love bringing that high-level artistry into my teaching, no matter the age or skill level of my students. But honestly? The best part of my job is watching a student light up when they finally hit that high note, blend perfectly with their section, or realize they actually love to sing. In my classroom, we laugh a lot, move a lot, and make a ton of music — because I believe music is meant to be felt as much as it’s heard. Whether we’re stomping out rhythms, putting on a musical, or singing in perfect harmony, my mission is to help kids walk away feeling confident, included, and excited to keep making music. If you’re passionate about music education, choral directing, or creating joyful learning spaces, I’d love to connect! Let’s keep making music that brings people together.
