About Saskia Doherty

Currently working as a Project Assistant & Analyst at Clim-Eat, a think & do tank based in Wageningen, supporting efforts to accelerate food system transformations under climate change, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. MSc graduate in Sustainable Land Management from Wageningen University, with thesis research at the School of Agriculture (ISA), University of Lisbon. My thesis explored how (semi-)natural habitat patches in Mediterranean irrigated floodplains support spider abundance and natural pest suppression services. Recently completed an internship with the Food Security, Climate, and Water team at the Dutch Embassy in Nairobi, contributing to initiatives tackling food security, climate resilience, and water management in East Africa. My background spans marine ecology and GIS research, business development in the food sector, and agroecology. I hold a BSc in Earth, Energy, and Sustainability from Leiden University College, with a focus on ecosystem science, GIS, and statistics. I’m particularly interested in the socio-ecological dimensions of agricultural systems, especially regarding biodiversity, soil health, and land-use change as a driver of climate impacts. I’m passionate about environmental justice and the transition to sustainable food systems that address global challenges like food insecurity, biodiversity loss, and socio-economic inequality.
