Hello! My name is Savannah Smith, and I attended Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, majoring in Environmental Science with minors in Biology and General Business, and a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Certificate. I am an ambitious, detail-oriented employee, known for my strong analytical skills and passion for sustainability and safety. Through my academic achievements and hands-on internship and job experiences, I consistently demonstrate my commitment to environmental health. My key strengths lie in my analytical mindset, adaptability, and ability to collaborate with diverse teams. My coursework in Environmental Science, Biology, and General Business, paired with a GIS Certificate, has equipped me with a solid foundation in environmental data analysis, risk assessment, and sustainable business practices. My passion for understanding and addressing environmental challenges is evident in my publication in the Library of Economics and Liberty, where I shared insights on economic and environmental intersections. In my current internship, I’ve gained valuable experience in various aspects of Environmental, Health & Safety. For example, I conducted OSHA-like inspections in customer production facilities and provided recommendations on best management practices. I participated in safety shower inspections at chemical plants and supported respiratory protection efforts, including Grade D air quality monitoring. Additionally, I developed a standardized records identification system and contributed to workplace safety curriculum development. I handled Tier II waste profiling for 30 locations, along with several TRI reports, managed EPA ID number requests and renewals, and compiled data for stormwater analysis, air emissions, noise pollution, and air quality. I have written Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, Best Management Practice (BMP) Plans, and biennial waste reports. Furthermore, I created various facility maps, including emergency evacuation maps and stormwater flow maps, and established standard procedures for various environmental, health, and safety tasks. In my junior year, I was honored to be selected as a Howard Scholar at Samford University, an achievement awarded to only twenty students from the Howard College of Arts and Sciences for exceptional academic performance. As a Howard Scholar, I joined a community of intellectual leaders serving as academic ambassadors for the college, driving my desire to advocate for environmental safety and sustainable practices.
