About Scott Alanen

I am a high energy, senior executive who is passionate about the people I work with and the results we generate. I have extensive experience in all aspects of the corporate finance function, especially within the energy transition, real estate and energy sectors. Having structured over $400 million of Indigenous debt and equity ownership in key infrastructure and assets, most recently of which include renewable power generation assets as well as being a principal architect of the $1.5 billion Cascade Power project in which 6 First Nations successfully acquired a significant equity stake. Previous to that my experience has focused on raising and allocating capital and private equity for a pooled real estate mortgage fund, a private equity fund and a start up exploration and production entity. In addition to raising start up capital, which tested and added to my presentation and planning skill set I have had to manage the ongoing operations of two E&P companies. Further I have the passion, managerial and operational experience to coach, mentor, lead and motivate a reporting staff of all sizes. By being actively involved in the operational accounting, internal reporting, external reporting (including private companies and public companies listed on the TSX and TSX-V), strategic planning (including analysis of potential M&A targets), budgeting and internal control (CSOX) processes, I have become a very well rounded and very knowledgeable finance professional who can communicate with shareholders, board members and all team members within an organization. My work experience spans various industry roles including Managing Director, VP Finance and Chief Financial Officer, Controller, Manager of Financial Reporting, Corporate Accounting and IFRS consulting. Previous to that, I spent several years working as a senior auditor with a national Canadian accounting firm. My education includes a Chartered Accountant designation, a Chartered Business Valuator designation, a Chartered Financial Modeler designation, Institute of Corporate Directors designation and a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Accounting Major) from the University of Alberta School of Business. I am a member in good standing with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants as well as the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators.
