About Shaka Baker

I obtained my Bachelor of Business Degree in May 2019 through Capilano University with an Advanced Diploma in marketing. I originally had intertest in advertising, consumer behavior, branding and innovation, project management, event marketing, marketing strategies and decisions, social media marketing, and marketing projects in the industry. I started with BC Hydro as a Project Coordinator in the CLRA Resource Pool. The job required me to move around in BC Hydro in different roles, wherever assistance was needed. I was hired in February 2020 and have managed to work in three different departments since starting with BC Hydro. During my temporary role with the operations team in Conservation and Energy Management Department as a Program Representative. I took the role as it gave me some stability with my plans with returning to school. I think the biggest take away from my experience from the Project Coordinator position was my ability to adjust to working from home and being able to assist with manage multiple programs, projects, and roles, all of which required me to utilize organizational tools and lessons from previous roles to keep me effective and flexible. The Project Coordinator position with CLRA Resource Group had a strong influence with me enrolling in the Project Management Online Certificate through UBC Sauder. I specifically found interest during my time with the Communities and Capital Projects Team when I managed to help assist with BC Hydro’s Integrated Resource Plan: Clean Power 2040. I managed to assist my manager with phase 2 and the considerations of new power supplies. The role was a mixture of project management and administrative work, I specifically found interest in managing multiple projects and being involved in a project of meaning. I also managed to pick up some useful tools for engaging stakeholders virtually with the rise of COVID-19. I am have completed my Project Management certificate in June of 2022. I do plan on taking the exam as I am interested in obtaining my PMP Certificate or CAPM Certificate.
