About Shane Barrow

Shane regularly has also had the privilege to serve as a Professional Resource and International Visitor Liaison for the U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) on numerous occasions in California, and recently in partnership with the Utah Council for Citizen Diplomacy for a Tourism & Recreation field program where he recently completed his service on the board of directors. He is recipient of the State of Utah Commission for Service and Volunteerism award for his service to the State and commitment to volunteerism and community. Shane completed undergraduate work in Physical Geography and Geomorphology before earning an M.S. in Natural Resource Management with an emphasis in ecological restoration, botany, resource and recreation management from California State University. Prior to becoming ACE National Internship Director in 2010, Shane worked on a multitude of restoration and natural resources projects and programs with the Bureau of Land Management California. During his ten years with BLM California, Shane worked as an Outdoor Recreation Planner, Natural Resource Specialist, NEPA & Soil, Water & Air Coordinator, and Assistant Program Manager for the Atwell Island Project, a BLM-US Bureau of Reclamation project to convert marginal agricultural land into upland and wetland habitat. Shane then went on to work for two non-profit land trusts including the Catalina Island Conservancy as the Catalina Habitat Improvement and Restoration Program Manager and the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust as the Restoration Biologist. While working in the private conservation community he continued to develop innovative programs to engage the public while addressing critical environmental restoration and stabilization needs.
