About Shanea Morrison Nelson

Extensive, Director-level experience in higher education, workforce development, and community development. As a strategic leader, I have successfully grown higher ed programs that provide valuable education, housing, and career-related resources to college students and the community at large. With over 10 years of leadership in the higher education space, I have re-built and expanded college access programs including the McNair Research Scholars and Educational Talent Search programs at major universities like LSU, College of the Ouachitas, and Henderson State University. Through strategic operational leadership, cultural-centric curriculum development, and consistent academic support, I seek to create equitable student experiences while removing roadblocks that may prevent students from succeeding academically. I excel in planning and executing new ways to grow community outreach and strategic partnerships with external agencies, employers, and government leaders to drive awareness and impact of available human services and resources. I currently sit on several community boards and special committees to keep a pulse of student and community needs. Additionally, I have a deep knowledge of the federal and local grant process and have raised critical federal and local grant funds for several organizations throughout the community. Along with obtaining grant awards, I have successfully managed multi-million grant funds with federal and state oversight. I am known for my persistence, my sense of humor, and my commitment to the student and public populations I serve.
