About Shania Mitchell

Currently pursuing my MSW at the University of Denver, I am seeking internship opportunities that would help me gain more experience with individual therapy. I have particular interests in areas such as substance abuse and trauma. My skills include interpersonal communication, written communication, problem-solving, leading, observing, and analyzing, which are all important skills to have in the social work field. Social work has always been a part of my life. Every step that I have taken in my professional development has been to connect with others, convey empathy, understand the needs of the client population served by my company, and directly fulfill those needs or connect them to resources that could assist in the fulfillment of those needs. During my time as a BSW student at Kutztown, I worked as a part-time concierge at Greenfield Senior Living. At Greenfield, I was responsible for greeting guests and visitors, while making sure that the needs of the residents were being met. I was the first point of contact for anyone who called or came into the building. My passion for helping others led me to take on a position as a Care Manager, providing direct care to the older adults residing in the facility. I was promoted to Med Tech soon after, a leadership position in which I was responsible for administering medication and ensuring that I and the other members of the team in my shift provided quality care. I completed my undergraduate field practicum at the Montgomery County Office of Children and Youth and gain insight into the essence of social work. Mainly working with families to navigate kinship placements, I was able to empower these families to overcome trauma and provide suggestions on ways to build healthy relationships in the home and outside of it. After graduation, prior to being hired at ComPsych, I had the opportunity to work with CCRES as Behavioral Health Technician during which I provided school-based support to a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder. At present, I am a Guidance Specialist with ComPsych, dedicated to the intake process and triage of our numerous clients. My mission in life to help the human heart and mind. I want there to be more compassion in the world for people who are marginalized. My hope is to make sure that those who are struggling to be met with the resources and support that they are lacking to improve their circumstances. I wish to provide people with the necessary skills and tools that they need to live stable and happy lives.
