About Shaun Murray

Dr Shaun Murray BA Dip Arch MA PhD ARB SFHEA Dr. Murray is a qualified architect and the director of ENIAtype, a transdisciplinary architecture practice founded in 2011 focusing on time loops and routines. He holds a doctorate in architecture from the Planetary Collegium CAiiA Star, University of Plymouth, achieved in 2010. Additionally, he became a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2024. He serves as an Associate Professor at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, and is also a Senior Lecturer in Architecture at the University of Greenwich. Previously held position at the Architectural Association, Carleton University in Ottawa, AHO Oslo School of Architecture, University of Brighton, University of Kent, University of Portsmouth, KTH Stockholm, University of Plymouth and authored "Disturbing Territories"(Springer, 2006), a book that showcases his pioneering work in time-based architectural drawing, widely published. In 2010, he founded and is Editor-in-Chief of the architectural journal "Design Ecologies" supporting early researchers and radical thinkers such as Peter Watts, Timothy Morton and Nick Land, published through Intellect Books. His project "Tellurian Relics" was published in "Architectural Design: Celebrating the Marvellous: Surrealism in Architecture" in 2018. His recent exhibitions include a solo drawing exhibition in Carleton University in Ottawa, Shanghai Urban Space Art Season, and drawings are exhibited at A83 Gallery in New York (2023-25) with a talk at The Cooper Union. He participated in an exhibition on "Drawing Conversations" at the Montreal Design Centre, which accompanied the Drawing Conversations publication by Lund Humphries. He is a member of the "Drawing Architecture" group, which includes renowned architects and artists such as Bryan Cantley, Mike Webb, Perry Kulper, Neil Spiller, Reit Eeckhout, Nat Chard and others. This group has exhibited works at the Architecture Museum in Montreal, Cooper Union, and A83 Gallery in New York in 2025. Originating concepts like Phenoscapes which seek to redefine the role of architecture and landscape, using algorithmic techniques to design actual, virtual and hybrid intelligent environments through projects including Camargue Condensation, Tellurian Relics, Thames Bathymetry and Abducted Ground: The ineffaceable illumination of Badrices ege.
