About Sheila Tormey

Sheila is a Partner in William Fry’s Competition & Regulation Department. She advises on the full range of EU and Irish competition law issues. Her merger control practice includes EU and Irish merger control, including the Irish media merger regime. She also has extensive experience in cartel investigations, distribution agreements, conduct by dominant firms and competition law damages actions. In addition, she advises on State aid, telecoms regulation and public procurement law. She has particular experience of working with clients in the private equity and financial services sectors. Significant matters include advising: • UTV Media plc on Irish merger control aspects of the sale of UTV Television to ITV plc, including obtaining Phase I clearance from the CCPC and media merger clearance; • a truck manufacturer in the defence of competition law damages actions in Ireland following a European Commission infringement decision; • Selfridges Group on the acquisition of Arnotts, the major Dublin department store. This involved a voluntary referral of the merger from the European Commission to the CCPC under Article 4(4) EUMR and obtaining unconditional clearance; and • FMCG, life sciences and other clients on a range of distribution issues. Sheila offers expertise across a range of competition instructions, including merger control, behavioural competition and competition disputes.
