About Shreyas Bakare
Hi! I’m a final-year BS-MS (Dual Degree) student majoring in Physics at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune, India. I'm an INSPIRE DST scholar and a member of the CMS experiment group at IISER. I am interested in studying the field of Particle Physics, especially its experimental aspects. I enjoy methodologies that combine physics with modern machine learning. Currently, I’m pursuing my Master’s thesis under Prof. Sourabh Dube, where I’m exploring how Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) can enhance physics analysis in collider experiments. From event-level graph representations for signal-background classification to jet tagging using constituent-level graphs, I’m experimenting with new ways to extract insights from LHC data. I’ve also recently started exploring tools for topological data analysis in HEP. I interned at CERN with the ATLAS experiment, working under Prof. Aurelio Juste (IFAE, Barcelona) on model-independent searches for new phenomena in four-lepton final states. Over the past three years, I’ve been actively involved in EHEP research with the CMS group at IISER Pune. My work has ranged from developing lepton pairing algorithms for multilepton final states, measuring charge misidentification rates using tag-and-probe methods, to applying ML and modern data analysis techniques to HEP problems. I’m proficient in Python and C++, and regularly work with tools like ROOT, MadGraph, Pythia, Delphes, and ML libraries such as PyTorch, PyTorch Geometric, TensorFlow, Keras, and Scikit-learn. Outside of physics, I love building things—whether it’s automation tools for college clubs, electronics projects, or STEM-focused content. One of my YouTube interviews has even crossed 100K views. I’m also passionate about science communication and using science for social impact. I’m also big on sustainability and environmental impact. A while back, I worked as a R&D intern at the 14 Trees Foundation, contributing to climate action initiatives.
