About Simon Elliott

Simon has worked in Education since 1992, initially as a teacher of Science and Mathematics and then, through an interest in school data systems, in an LEA support role for the SIMS data system in Southampton schools. As National Grid for Learning rolled out, he moved into IT education, and has worked in West Cornwall since teaching IT and Computer Science to Reception to Year 13 students. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator, Apple Teacher and has 23 years of experience in the Apple ecosystem in education, particularly ten years experience in 1:1 IPad deployments, O365 and GSuite, as well as Unifi Networks and teaching computing using the RaspberryPi. He is also familiar with the use of Kali Linux in passive and active cyber security assessments. He has written papers on the impact of tablets on children on the Autistic Spectrum and the role of Social Justice in Education, and has spoken at conferences on various aspects of safe 1:1 deployments in secondary schools. In 2014 he gained an MEd with Distinction, researching the impact of 1:1 deployments for students with SEND. From 2017 to 2021, he served as Cornwall Councillor for the Ludgvan Division in West Cornwall, and Ludgvan Parish Council, was a Vice Chair of Governors and Safeguarding Lead for the Cornwall Adult Education service, a Vice Chair of the Children and Families Overview and Scrutiny Committee, a member of the Corporate Parenting Board and the Shadow Cabinet member for Children and Families. He was also a Town and Parish Councillor in Ludgvan, Madron and Penzance, finishing in April 2025. He is currently a Cornish Ambassador and in 2023 completed an MSc in Cyber Security, gaining a Distinction. In May 2022, he joined Cornwall Council as Team Manager (Data and Technical Solutions) in the Together for Families Directorate. This became a focus for his paper outlining the processes for identifying the legal gateways for information sharing in local government.
