About Simon Hendry

I am currently working at East Midlands Airport as the Control Room Trainer, where I am able to put my training knowledge, skills and experience to good use, instructing new starters for a complex and reactive role. I also undertake recurrent training to ensure that all Control Room Operatives remain up-to-date and within the legal framework required by a heavily regulated industry. I have had to create this role from scratch, being the first Trainer the Control Room has had, building a complete syllabus and training package that is now being successfully used. Through my working, the length of training that new starters undertake has dropped from 6 months+, down to around 3 months. This role allows me to combine a passion for training with an interest in aviation.I have always had an interest in Training, ever since working as a Naturalist Guide in Denali National Park, Alaska, where I took guests on interpretive backcountry hikes. I furthered my experience in Training whilst working at McDonald's where I was a Crew Trainer/Floor Manager, who was not only responsible for one or more parts of the restaurant at any one time, but also trained team members, both new, and those wishing to advance. My experience in training continued to grow whilst working at Moulton College, where I conducted Commercial Experience sessions for students, which also involved providing detailed reports that made up approximately 30% of their final course grade. As a result of this experience, when I began work at RAF Waddington as an Air and Space Operations Specialist within the Civil Service they quickly enlisted my skills and experience to become part of the training team. Here I gained a Defence Train the Trainer qualification.
