About Som Pun

Currently, I am a sessional instructor (Adjunct Professor) at the University of Northern British Columbia, Prince George, Canada. Professionally, I am a Registered Professional Forester with Forest Professionals British Columbia, Canada, with over 23 years of natural resources and forest management experience across both government and private sectors. My career has spanned a broad spectrum of forestry and natural resource management practices throughout the Coastal and Northern Interior regions of British Columbia. Since 2004, I have served in various professional capacities within the Ministry of Forests for the Province of British Columbia. These roles have included supervisory responsibilities and professional mentorship, through which I’ve developed a strong foundation in leadership and operational excellence. My areas of expertise encompass silviculture, forest health, timber development, forest stewardship, engineering, and forestry contract management. Notably, I have led the silviculture program and managed operational planning and post-award phases of Timber Sales Licenses, ensuring alignment with the Sustainable Forest Management Plan. I have also built and maintained productive relationships through consultation and negotiation with First Nations communities, industry stakeholders, licensees, contractors, and partner agencies. As a Woodlands Supervisor in the Provincial Forest Technologist Entry Level Program, I provide supervision, coaching, and mentorship to government staff, overseeing a comprehensive office and field-based operational training and curriculum development. In my additional capacity as a sponsoring forester, I mentor several Foresters in Training (FITs) and Allied Science Foresters in Training (ASFITs), guiding them toward achieving their Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) and Registered Professional Forester (RPF) designations with FPBC.
