Background
About Stacey Odonnell
I am a dedicated, enthusiastic, and motivating educator who is well qualified to provide the skills necessary for students to succeed. I received my Master’s of Science in Secondary Education at the University of New Haven. I am currently certified to teach biology in Connecticut and Rhode Island and I’m preparing to take the Praxis II in Chemistry Content Knowledge in order to receive my Chemistry Endorsement. Since receiving my certification, I have been employed as a long term substitute biology teacher at South Windsor High School in Connecticut and a long term substitute anatomy and physiology, physical science, and biology teacher at Tollgate High School in Warwick, Rhode Island. In addition I have been a daily substitute teacher at Norwich Free Academy, Waterford Public Schools, and Stonington Public Schools. My student teaching was completed at Killingly High School in Dayville, Connecticut. I taught four courses; two college prep biology classes, and two general biology classes. I worked with a variety of students, some of who had special needs due to ADHD, emotional behavioral disorder, and autism. Due to the wide range of students I taught, I had to develop an array of differentiated material for my students that met their needs while still following the Common Core Standards of Connecticut as well as the Next Generation Science Standards. In addition, I had to create individual and group work that targeted the students’ strengths as well as challenged them. I believe by creating viable types of formative assessments that challenge students while lending to creativity can greatly help students develop a deeper understanding of the course content. I have experience differentiating material, employing 21st century skills, integrating Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards in my lessons, and collaboaring with other educators, counselors, and parents to provide every student with the skills necessary to suceed.
