About Stefan Baumgartner
I was a developmental biologist at Lund University and the Editor-in-Chief of HEREDITAS up to 2023, one of the oldest and most reputable journals in the world specializing in genetics. With over 25 years of experience in leading and conducting research on model systems, such as Drosophila, I have a deep understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms of inheritance and development. In addition to my editorial role at HEREDITAS, which celebrated its centenary in 2020, I am also a professor emeritus at Lund University, where I have taught and mentored generations of students and researchers in developmental biology. I have served as a visiting professor at the University of Zürich and still serve at the University of Konstanz where I share my knowledge and passion for model systems and their applications in the study of life. My mission is to advance the field of genetics and developmental biology through scientific writing, teaching, and collaboration.
