Background

About Stephanie Crosson

I have spent 6 years working in the civil industry prior to going back to study engineering. As a result I now have 7 licenses, 6 of which I no longer get to use.My work experience provided me with a practical technical knowledge and invaluable life skills, including people management and experience in running jobs. Two of the more notable projects I worked on during this time, was the Central Plains Irrigation Scheme, Stage 1 and 2 (Rakaia to the Waimakariri river) and a portion of the remediation work along Dudley Creek (Shirley, Christchurch).I studied at Ara institute of Canterbury and credit my success to the tutors, my peers and the facilities. During my last year of study, I participated in an Ara initiative showcasing student journeys. It was an opportunity to share my story 'Digger operator to Engineering design', and hopefully inspire others to was also lucky enough to be a part of the Power Up expo, held at the Town Hall in Christchurch, in 2020. I attended the event and presented my story, closing with a Q&A session regarding the value of study and upskilling. I am passionate about sharing my experience with others, especially with those who may not have grown up with all the options laid my study I continued to work part time for Knight Contracting and, upon graduation, as a Mechanical Engineer, I started working at Beca.I have worked at Beca for 5.5 years and have been involved in several different projects. These include water supply pipeline and pump stations, reservoir design and wastewater gravity design.I have been involved with the wellhead raising work around Christchurch and have undertaken construction monitoring and the Engineers Representative role on several projects. I am assisting in the client relationship management space, for I've recently become the chair of the Southern Te Kākano Ropu (Māori cultural committee), so am hoping to make some positive cultural change within Beca and the industry. The 'better I am interested in, considers communities at the top. I am more interested in critical infrastructure than glamorous projects :)
