About Steve Knight

After leaving education in 1988 having studied photography, I moved to London as an equipment assistant at Conran studios (The now Big Sky Studios Building). Within two years I was promoted to the role of equipment manager having responsibility for all camera & lighting equipment at the sq.ft. complex which was part of the agency Conran Design Group. In April 93 I founded Direct Lighting and over the next 18 years built a camera and lighting rental operation to become the market leader in photographic rental in London & Paris with a staff in excess of 50. In 2011 I sold the business to Panavision/ Panalux group to continue its journey into Cape Town and Manchester. In February 2017 with a desire to rekindle my entrepreneurial spirit I left the business I founded to seek new opportunities. In August 2017. a new chapter began as I took up a COO and shareholder position at Pixipixel, a progressive camera and lighting equipment rental facility based in Hoxton, East London and Tottenham North London. My key responsibilities include setting our strategy for growth and its implementation, responsibility for Finance & HR team, lighting operations and business development. In November 2020 the business took investment from Merino Capital private equity, and I was promoted to the role of Managing Director. I continue to be a shareholder along with Merino and am responsible for the running of the lighting and camera operations across two locations employing 70 staff. We continue to grow our markets supplying camera, grip, lighting and power generation both in long form continuing drama & film and short form TV commercials and music videos.
