About Steve Sage

My passion is to see the church better understand and live out its calling in the mission of God as a gospel-shaped missionary community sent for the sake of the world. This has profound implications for the self-understanding, vision, dynamics, and practices of local churches, and it redefines the way we normally think of the role of leaders within the church. My personal calling is to help the North American church develop a more thorough-going "pastoral missiology"(an understanding and approach to ecclesiology and the pastoral ministry that is shaped by the mission of God). I believe one of the greatest needs of the North American church is to bridge this gap between missional theory and the actual practices of local churches. I seek to do this by being engaged in both the academic discussion and as a pastor in hands-on ministry in a local church, as well as by being involved with God’s people engaging the world in my city, region, denomination, and around the world. Through these experiences, I seek to both continually learn and exert influence through whatever means God provides: ongoing pastoral experience, supporting church planting efforts, city-wide ministry collaboration, academia, writing, and speaking.
