Background
About Steve Wiseman
Through my consultancy, Wiseman & Associates, I provide tailored support to charities and social enterprises—helping them start, grow, and sustain their work. This includes fundraising (grants, tenders, sponsorships), business development (planning, communications, research), and mentoring for both established organisations and community start-ups. With a long career the voluntary and community sector, I bring experience as a writer, researcher, lecturer, community development consultant, and former long term Citizens Advice CEO. I’ve supported initiatives in education, social justice, youth and family support, refugee integration, arts, environment, and mental health. I’m a Trustee of maNGOma – supporting grassroots initiatives in the UK and overseas, and a Director of CICs ClearCompany – showcasing community artists; Norwich Eco Hub – connecting community and environmental groups; Softly Softly Yoga – free yoga for disadvantaged communities. I co-founded these and am a founding member of other charities e.g. Norwich Community Law Service and Norwich Unity Hub My research includes Consumer Attitudes to Sources of Legal Information and Advice (2002), Bridging the Housing Gap (access to private rented sector for people at risk of homelessness)(2021), Learning from the Start-ups (2022). Also served on research advisory panels including: The Norwich Solar System – Barriers and Drivers (2021) Exploring Eco-Anxiety Through Performance (Anglia Ruskin University 2022)) and A Fair Deal Inclusive Insight, commissioned by Homeless Link 2021). My work is grounded in equity, agency, and ecological responsibility. I take a collaborative, practical approach—equipping people with tools and confidence to lead change. I’m also part of Reimagine Norwich, a Doughnut Economics-inspired group; in 2024, we presented our work to a global audience for Global Doughnut Day. I hold an MA in Education & Professional Development, Qualified Teacher Status, and a Diploma in Fundraising Management (CIOF) For 15 years I produced weekly press advice columns, and have authored accessible, empowering public guides aimed at demystifying complex systems and promoting citizen empowerment. A member of the Society of Authors, I’ve written accessible guides on legal rights, benefits, and education, e.g. PPI Claim - Guidance Booklet (2012) Learn More to Earn More,(LawPack Publishing 2007) Claim Your Cash!(LawPack Publishing 2004) Leaves on The Line (Law Pack Publishing 2004) Put it in Writing (LawPack Publishing 2002) How to Complain Effectively (Optima 1987 & LawPack Publishing 2001).
