About Tabeth Masengu

I am the Director of Advocacy for European Christian Organisations for Relief and Development (EU-CORD),a network of 26 NGOS that work alongside over 800 implementing partners worldwide. My responsibilities include leading advocacy initiatives that target the European Commission, Parliament and other institutions on issues concerning sustainable development, peacebuilding, and the role of faith-based organisations. I have a strong track record of providing advocacy training to equip others to ensure more people are at the decision-making table in all aspects of development cooperation. I have previous experience as a part-time scientific expert for the Council of Europe's CEPEJ GT-QUAL project, for whom I conducted a study on gender equality in its 47 member states' judiciaries. Before that, I spent nine years in an academic portfolio that combined advocacy and research on gender and judicial governance, the rule of law, human rights and equality in the legal profession. I garnered regional and international experience in speaking engagements, training, and peer-reviewed academic publications. In 2010, I was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa, and thereafter, I pursued a career in human rights. A decade later, I made history by becoming the first PhD graduate from the University of Cape Town Law faculty to graduate with a joint doctorate. My PhD was a joint initiative with Ghent University in Belgium.
