About Tala J.

My whole life, I’ve always known ‘that’s how it’s always been done’ is not enough to create the society and culture we deserve. When it comes to education, the environment and social justice, there is always a more sustainable and holistic approach that can be taken to uplift those around us. And my mission has always been to catalyse this.Nothing about my professional journey would be considered 'conventional'. After falling ill with a chronic disease in the middle of my first year, I left and began tutoring. Once experiencing the feeling of helping just one student understand that they can do anything they put their mind to, I knew this had to be done at scale- I just didn't know out how. That’s when I came across Reflective Learning. Reflective Learning is an impact-driven EdTech company that is solving the issue of learning loss with technology. After a heart-to-heart with one of their co-founders, I found myself assisting with a project where I had the chance to prove my determination to add value to the space. Since then, I was offered an internship to go through each department and eventually got promoted to the position of Executive Assistant to the CEO & COO.In my time there, I have worked in the service department and got a great understanding of how the implementation looks for innovative, cutting-edge tech solutions. I produced podcasts, arranged webinars, and assisted with the social media strategy across multiple platforms.During the internship and in my current role, I have been upskilled to design basic graphics on Figma and run special projects. My favourite project being for social upliftment and positive behaviour incentivisation with a local community partner.My entire experience in the EdTech space has been incredibly fulfilling for me in my journey because of how many learners I’ve seen catch up years of understanding in crucial gate-keeping subjects (i.e. Maths and English), opening doors that would’ve remained shut otherwise. What I’ve found most fascinating is the social return on investment that such valuable EdTech tools can have, especially when measured and tracked at a granular level.I’m certain about the change that can be made when innovating and solving such complex societal shortcomings through collaboration and partnerships. There are so many people solving incredible problems with awesome tech solutions. I look forward to expanding my network to hopefully reach a few of these inspiring individuals and see what happens when we combine our purpose, drive and determination to bring about positive change!
