About Tamara A. Kool
I am an expert on social (protection) policy and forced displacement. The past ten years, my work has centred on the agency and empowerment of marginalised groups, and the role of social (protection) policies in furthering social justice. Through evidence-based research, I seek to contribute to informing policies and programming. Within my work I employ an interdisciplinary approach building on human rights, sociology, and development economics, using both qualitative and quantitative methods. I have undertaken various institutional consultancies in different capacities in the field of social (protection) policy and humanitarian contexts for amongst others Dutch public institutions, UNHCR, WFP, Economic Research Forum, UNICEF, and ILO. In addition, I give trainings to professionals and have taught Master students on social protection and human development. Further, I obtained my PhD in Economics and Governance at Maastricht University in 2022 on the role of refugee-related policies in shaping labour market engagement of regional-based refugees in the Jordan through the lens of social exclusion.
