About Tara Peterman

Tara is an award-winning producer and journalist with more than 25 years experience working in the U.S. and Europe. She is currently an Executive Producer in News & Current Affairs with RTÉ, Ireland's public service media organisation, and has a prominent role in RTÉ's climate change coverage. Tara successfully led "RTÉ on Climate" which saw the creation of the "RTÉ Youth Assembly" meeting at Dáil Éireann (the Irish parliament). She led RTÉ efforts, and a team, to produce high value digital and broadcast content across the organization on themes such as youth mental health, the role of women in society and climate change, as part of the "Big Picture" project. She originated, co-produced and co-directed the documentary ‘Orla Tinsley: Warrior’. Tara has covered each U.S. Presidential election campaigns since 1998, and has overseen major reporting trips in Iraq, Afghanistan, Indonesia and the US. As Executive Producer of "Prime Time," Ireland’s most influential current affairs show, from 2003-2012, Tara was involved in the daily management of the reporting & producing teams and output.She has been dedicated to using technology and combines her passion for video-storytelling with the rise of social journalism. Tara began her broadcast career in Washington DC as the U.S. Producer for Sky News. She moved to Ireland in where she rose at RTÉ to become Executive Producer of the programme Prime Time. Prior to this, Tara served as a print journalist, as Washington Correspondent, for The Irish Voice newspaper. She then became excited by video news, current affairs and documentaries.Over the years her work has appeared on RTÉ, Sky News, BBC, CBS 60 Minutes, National Geographic and more.Tara is a member the European Broadcasters Union Climate Journalists Group, was a member of the NY Women in Film & Television, Women in Media Network and the National Union of Journalists in Ireland and UK. She has won various media awards such as the Justive Media Award, an Irish Medical Media Award and was part of the successful 'Journalist of the Year' team in the ESB National Media Awards, along with being cited for her role in the creation of the RTÉ Youth Assembly.
